Anna Sui: Fairy Dance

Eloise here! Sorry for the long wait, but you know how the Christmas rush goes. Back unto the blogging breach once more…

I have loved the Anna Sui fairy perfumes since I was a very tiny girl. Donkeys years ago, my beloved mater bought me the beautiful, blue, Secret Wish. As a young girl I fell in love with the fairy tale exterior, and used it about once a month for many years, so I only very recently ran out. Luckily, I have the best mum in the world, so she anticipated this need and bought the new and improved Fairy Dance for me this Christmas.

I have the 30ml bottle and it is my most favouritest thing. The bottle itself is stunning, with a coquettish fairy sat on the lid. The perfume is where the magic truly lies. While the first fairy perfume could be seen as a little cloying or childish, this eau de toilette smells distinctly of mangoes, and makes me feel summery despite the cold of January. Gone are the melon and pineapple tones of Secret Wish: now more floral fragrances are blended with fruity mango, raspberry, and some lovely sandalwood.

The overall fragrance of both Anna Sui perfumes put me in mind of Daisy from the Great Gatsby; the scene where she sits in a too hot room, being buffeted about by the wind, white dress floating around her. There is something very innocent and pleasing in Fairy Dance, a youthful je ne sais quoi, you might say. As such I would recommend it to people in their late teens, early twenties – I’m sure Vivienne will vouch that a good fragrance for any older than that is Chanel No. 5 which I know to be her favourite.

Some bloggers and reviewers have said that this perfume fades very quickly. However, I have always found that it lingers on my skin until around midday, at which point I would usually top up any makeup including perfume anyway. I imagine it depends on how hot your body runs and how much physical activity you get up to: I would not expect any scent to hold up to a marathon, no matter how strong.

In my humble opinion, this perfume is the greatest thing since sliced bread (which those who know me will know to be a big deal). It’s a tad more expensive than anything I would perhaps buy myself, but then again as a youth I tend to expect fragrances as gifts. As such, I don’t know the first thing about he average price of perfume, but I do know that wearing this gives me a little extra boost of fairytale confidence. Everyone should get to feel like a fairy princess, and this beautiful peach-tinted parfum will do exactly that.
